Ladies and gentlemen, Tom Brady is officially retiring. Here he is waving goodbye to all the loyal fans. We may never see a great like this again (Photograph courtesy of Joe Burbank/Orlando Sentinel/TNS).

This is it. The moment all NFL fans have been waiting for, and some have even been praying for, the retirement of Tom Brady is confirmed as of March 20.

The New England Patriots quarterback has had a fantastic career leading up to this announcement. Recently winning the 2019 Super Bowl, his autograph prices are now as high as they’ve ever been. So it begs the question, why would a decorated player leave after being considered the Greatest of All Time?

Answer: the wife.

Gisele Bundchen and Brady were married in 2009, so this year marks their 10th year of marriage, which is crazy considering other high profile marriages don’t last very long. Bundchen had quite the career herself as arguably the greatest supermodel of all time. These two greats were destined to meet each other it seems. Apparently, it was even set up as a blind date for the two of them.

Originally a native of Brazil, Bundchen was scouted by modeling agents at a very young age, and then her career took off. She’s covered hundreds of magazine issues, including Vogue, as well as graced the catwalk at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show as one of their leading angels. But she ended up quitting Victoria’s Secret in 2006.

“I was certainly grateful for the opportunity and the financial security the company had given me, but I was at a different place in my life, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to continue working there,” Bundchen said in an article for Cosmopolitan in November.

Just looking at either of their instagrams, fans can see how supportive the two are for each other. Brady uses way too many heart symbols saying “te amo” on most, if not all, of her photos in some way, and Bundchen comments on his photos as well. After the Super Bowl, their love for each other was clear.

“I can’t wait to just spend some time with my family, my kids and my wife. I couldn’t do it without their support. It’s just been a great year. I’m so happy for my teammates. It’s a dream come true for all of us,” Brady said in an interview for Us Weekly.

At 41, Brady is one of the oldest players and quarterbacks the league has seen. Bundchen, 38, is not modeling full time but most recently has released a book titled “Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life.”

It would make sense then that Brady would want to end with a bang. Six Super Bowl championships with a beautiful, supportive wife by his side, could it get any better than that?

After the release of Bundchen’s book, she’s been interviewed by many, including Good Morning America.

“I [have] never seen someone love something as much as he loves football, and it makes me happy,” Bundchen said in her interview with GMA anchor Robin Roberts.

Still, Brady will be leaving the NFL this upcoming season despite wanting to continue playing. However, it may be the right time as fans have seen the player get injured multiple times, and it would be devastating if something more serious were to happen.

“I have always loved football and Boston. I am grateful for all that this sport has given me. But my family will always come first,” Brady said.
