Subject: Now open: delicious desserts at Drexel park!
Date: Wed, 01 Apr 2026

On the corner of Baring Street now sits what may very well be the most charming sugar sanctuary in all of Philadelphia. Aptly named, The Sweetest Treat, it is less a title and more a promise. With its unapologetically pink storefront, it allures like no other, beckoning passersby to step inside. Even from the sidewalk, the air seems to carry whispers of decadent chocolate and caramelized sugar, a mouthwatering invitation that is impossible to ignore.

Since opening its doors on March 10, The Sweetest Treat has quickly transformed from a neighborhood curiosity into a bustling business. Perfectly perched beside Drexel Park and offering a dangerously generous student discount, the shop has become a gravitational pull for students. One step inside, and the display case is the first thing you will see. A dazzling assortment of frosting and flavor, it holds far more than the modest storefront suggests. Stocked with everything from buttery blondies to cupcakes crowned with perfect swirls of frosting, their menu feels limitless. It is the sort of place where one treat easily becomes two, and then maybe three… and at that point, who is really counting?

As the warmer weather beckons, it’s hard to imagine a better treat than a cup of their Sunrise soft serve, the perfect companion to lounge under the afternoon sun at Drexel Park. And when life calls for celebration — birthdays, graduations, or even surviving finals — the shop’s signature sponge cake rises to the occasion. The recipe, lovingly developed over many years, began as a classic Victorian sponge and evolved into something uniquely their own: impossibly light, delicately sweet; it is no wonder owners Paul and Sheila are in the process of patenting it.

Behind the scenes, the work begins long before sunrise. Paul arrives at the shop around 3 a.m. each morning, determined to ensure every tray, swirl, and sugar coating is fresh for the day ahead. Their philosophy centers on quality, and in their eyes, quality begins with the ingredients. They source locally whenever possible and make each component from scratch. Every batch of strawberry frosting starts with market strawberries transformed into a bright, fresh purée, and each coconut cookie is finished with freshly shredded coconut. In every bite, the difference is unmistakable. It only takes one taste of just about anything in this shop to convert a first-time visitor into a regular.

With doors open from 6 a.m. until 2 a.m., The Sweetest Treat has quietly stepped in to fill the late-night void in the Drexel food scene. It is not uncommon to see students venturing out past midnight, only to reappear moments later with the shop’s distinctive pink-and-gold striped box in hand. And if you ever fancied yourself as a cupcake connoisseur, now is your time to shine. In a charming effort to connect with the Drexel community, the owners are inviting customers to suggest flavor combinations for their rotating flavors of the month. March’s creation is already making a splash: a German chocolate cupcake with a dulce de leche frosting and a toasted marshmallow core; a dessert so indulgent it has been selling out almost as quickly as it appears in the case.

Whether you arrive between classes, after midnight, or during a lazy afternoon in the park, one thing is certain: The Sweetest Treat lives up to its name. A must-visit for all of Drexel, this quaint storefront might just become more famous than Mario the Dragon himself.
